I Have Recyclable Materials To Donate

Please review our list of accepted items, then complete the form. We’ll be in touch soon to arrange delivery or pickup at a time that works for you.

Keep Materials in Use!
Your donations help keep creativity alive in Northwest Ohio.

Grass Roots focuses on quality materials that can be reimagined or creatively reused — not just recycled.

Some items are always welcome, others are requested seasonally, and a few we can’t take for safety or reuse reasons.

Every donation supports creative “reconstruction” projects that keep good materials out of the landfill and in the hands of local makers.

Unsure? Call or text 419-250-3226 or email david@grassrootsrecyclingtoreuse.com

We also always welcome new or gently used school supplies for community drives.

Perfect for our woodworking, barnwood, and upcycling projects.

  • Reclaimable hardwoods (please call first if oversized, cracked, or insect-damaged)
  • Hardwood floorboards and trim (reclaimed or leftover new)
  • Barnwood (contact us first — we’ll inspect to confirm condition)
  • Dowel rods and small craft wood pieces
  • Sturdy small wooden boxes (cigar, jewelry, or game boxes — lids optional)
  • Unused nails, screws, bolts, and fasteners
  • Wire or small metal hardware (clean, not oily or rusty)
  • Cast-iron or iron items (horseshoes, railroad spikes, rods, etc.)
  • Hand tools and garden tools in usable shape

Local Lore & Story Pieces

We love small, character-filled items that share a bit of Northwest Ohio’s story — the quirky, handmade, or well-worn pieces that still have creative life left in them.

We’re not looking for valuables or collectibles, just items that can be reused, displayed, or reimagined — even if they’re missing a piece or need a little care.

Examples include:

  • Vintage hand tools or small shop equipment
  • Memorabilia from local businesses, schools, or community groups
  • Wooden boxes, crates, or signage fragments
  • Historic books, maps, directories, or ledgers (good condition)
  • Decorative or unusual items with local charm (clocks, lamps, carvings, ornaments, etc., even if not working)

If you’re unsure, just send a quick photo or give us a call — we’ll help you decide if it’s a fit!

To keep everyone safe and make sure donated items can truly be reused, there are a few things we can’t take:

  • Regular curbside recyclables (paper, cardboard, cans, and disposable plastics)
  • Disposable glass items (except open-top jars or anything we’ve specifically requested)
  • Treated lumber, particle board, or low-grade plywood and softwoods
  • Styrofoam or foam packaging
  • Used clothing, furniture, or household appliances
  • Paint or finishes larger than one quart
  • Items containing hazardous or toxic materials (like lawn, garden, or household chemicals)
