Your donations help keep creativity alive in Northwest Ohio.
Every day, useful materials are discarded simply because they’re no longer needed. At Grass Roots, we work to keep those materials in circulation by connecting them with woodworkers, makers, artists, educators, nonprofits, and others who can put them to good use.
We accept a wide variety of reclaimed wood, project materials, hardware, workshop supplies, and other useful items with remaining value. Rather than maintaining an endless list of every item we might accept, we’ve highlighted the types of donations we’re most often looking for below.
If you’re unsure whether something is a good fit, send us a few photos or complete the donation form. We’d much rather answer a quick question than see useful materials end up in the landfill.
Examples of Materials We Commonly Accept
Reclaimed Wood & Project Lumber
Hardwoods, barn wood, trim and millwork, panels, shelving, project wood, offcuts, and other quality reclaimed wood materials.
Hardware & Fasteners
Screws, nails, nuts, bolts, washers, hinges, brackets, handles, knobs, wire, and other reusable hardware and small metal parts.
Finishes & Workshop Supplies
Wood stains, polyurethane, oils, adhesives, brushes, sandpaper, and other usable workshop supplies.
Creative Reuse Materials
Project parts and pieces, containers, organizers, metal finds, frames, textiles, fabric, and creative odds and ends.
Garden & Outdoor
Garden tools, planters, terra-cotta and ceramic pots, outdoor décor, reclaimed garden materials, and other reusable outdoor items.
Objects with Character
Local memorabilia, vintage signs, industrial pieces, decorative objects, one-of-a-kind finds, and other unique items with history or creative potential.
Materials We Generally Cannot Accept
To help us focus on materials that can be safely reused, repurposed, or redistributed, there are a few items we generally cannot accept.
- Curbside recyclables and disposable packaging
- Hazardous chemicals and unsafe materials
- Treated lumber and low-value engineered wood products
- Large quantities of paint or finishes (we typically accept usable containers up to one quart)
- Household appliances, most furniture, and clothing
